Buying & Installation
Do you offer discounts for NHS, emergency services, or Armed Forces staff?
Yes. Our Helping Our Heroes programme provides a discount for eligible customers. Email sales@hypervolt.co.uk with valid ID.
How do I know if my home is eligible for a standard installation?
Our standard installation package is perfect for roughly 90% of homes. The main requirements: wall-mounting the unit, running less than 15 metres between the charging unit and the electrical panel, and no groundworks. If that sounds good, it’s very likely that standard installation is perfect.
How long does installation take?
Typically 2–3 hours. More complex work (long cable runs or groundworks) may take longer, but all costs are confirmed in advance.
Can I choose my own EV charger installer?
Yes. You can either use one of our certified partners or nominate your own electrician. You can buy the charger directly from us, we’ll ship it out the next day, and we’ll see you when you’re online with the Hypervolt app. Hypervolt is also available at all major wholesalers so your electrician will be able to source one for you.
Can I install an EV charger myself?
Only if you’re a qualified electrician! Home charging involves connection to your property’s main electrical supply, which requires Part P certification and compliance with the IET Wiring Regulations. Installing it yourself (or using someone who doesn’t have the right credentials) could invalidate your warranty and insurance.
Do I need planning permission?
Only if your home is listed or in a conservation area.
Are there any grants available?
There are a few grants available for renters, flat owners, and people with on-street parking. You need to work with an OZEV-authorised installer to claim these. If you buy directly from Hypervolt, our installers will help you claim these if you are eligible.
What if my home needs additional work?
Your pre-installation survey will highlight any extras, such as a long cable run or fuse upgrade. You’ll receive a full quote before work begins.
What if my main fuse needs upgrading?
Your installer will check during the survey. If your supply fuse is below 100 A, your DNO can usually upgrade it free of charge.
Do I need a surge protection device?
Regulatory-wise, it is optional but recommended. All of our installation quotes include fitting a surge protection device as standard, but you can opt-out if you speak to your installer.
How quickly can I get it installed?
Direct orders are typically completed within 2–3 weeks of purchase. Timelines may vary if you buy through other resellers.
Can I take my charger when I move house?
Yes. Have it safely removed and re-installed by a qualified installer. Your warranty remains valid.
How do I buy a charger?
You can:
- Buy directly at hypervolt.co.uk — we’ll ship it the next working day.
- Add professional installation during checkout and we’ll match you with a certified installer.
- Purchase through your local electrician (Hypervolt is available at all major wholesalers)
- Order via our partners:Octopus Energy, OVO Energy, and Heatable are some big ones
Compatibility & Charging
Is the Hypervolt Home 3 Pro single-phase or three-phase?
It’s a 7.4 kW single-phase charger (32 A). That’s the UK residential standard.
How is the Home 3 Pro different from older models?
It’s built on Hypervolt’s in-house software with smarter telemetry, remote diagnostics, and a redesigned heat-sink body for silent cooling. It’s IP66 weatherproof and IK10 impact-rated — engineered to last.
How fast will it charge my car?
Up to 7.4 kW, or roughly 25–30 miles of range per hour, depending on your vehicle.
Is the Hypervolt charger tethered or untethered?
All Hypervolts are tethered by design — cleaner, safer, and more convenient. Each includes a built-in holster.
Do I need to have a CT clamp installed to use the Hypervolt?
Yes. A CT (current transformer) clamp is required under UK regulations. It measures the total electrical load in your home so your charger can automatically manage power and prevent your main fuse from being overloaded. We include a CT clamp as part of our standard kit.You may choose to add a second CT clamp if you want to monitor data from an AC-coupled battery. This is usually available with an extra charge from installers.
What colours and cable lengths are available?
Choose from Ultra White, Space Grey, or Ultra Black with 5 m, 7.5 m, or 10 m cables.
Can I charge both my plug-in hybrid and full EV?
Yes — the same charger works for both. Plug-in hybrids simply charge more slowly.
Can one Hypervolt charge two cars?
Yes, just not simultaneously. You can easily switch vehicles and manage sessions via the app.
How much power does it use on standby?
Around 4 W per hour with LEDs off and 8 W per hour at full brightness — less than most smart bulbs.
What are the operating temperature limits?
The unit performs optimally up to 40 °C ambient. If the internal temperature reaches 85 °C, charging pauses and automatically resumes as it cools.
Can I swap the charging cable myself?
No. Only a qualified electrician should replace the tethered lead. DIY work voids the warranty.
Does the Hypervolt support Vehicle-to-Home (V2H) or Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G)?
Not yet. The Home 3 Pro is unidirectional (but we’re working on something - stay tuned).
Is the charger compatible with my car and solar setup?
Yes. Hypervolt chargers work with every EV and integrate with most solar systems.
How do I know if my car uses Type 1 or Type 2?
5 holes = Type 1. 7 holes = Type 2. Nearly all UK EVs use Type 2.
Can I lock or unlock my charger remotely?
Yes. The Hypervolt App connects to your charger via the cloud, letting you lock or unlock it from anywhere in the world.
Solar, Tariffs & Smart Energy
Can I charge using my excess solar power?
Yes. When your panels export more than 1.4 kW, Hypervolt automatically uses that surplus to charge your car.
Do I need a battery to use solar mode?
No. A battery is optional — the charger works perfectly with solar alone.
Do I need a CT clamp?
Yes — it’s included as standard. It monitors your home’s load to prevent fuse overloads and enables solar charging.
Does the Hypervolt work with smart tariffs?
Yes. We integrate with OVO Charge Anytime, Intelligent Octopus Go, and ev.energy for other suppliers.
How do I sign up for OVO or Octopus smart tariffs?
Follow the steps on their official websites. Once active, link your tariff in the Hypervolt App to unlock your personalised tariff charging mode.
What is Ultra Mode?
Our own smart-charging engine. It schedules charging for the cleanest, cheapest, or lowest-demand hours. Customers can even earn rewards from grid services. It’s for people who can’t (or don’t want to be on) smart tariffs like Intelligent Octopus Go or OVO Charge Anytime.
Will older models work with Enphase or other new solar setups?
Yes. Home 3 Pro and Home 3.0 integrate with Enphase solar and battery systems. The older 2.0 doesn’t support this feature.
App, Connectivity & Controls
How do I control my charger?
Through the Hypervolt App — your dashboard for scheduling, solar integration, energy-tariff optimisation, and remote lock/unlock.
Does the Hypervolt App support energy tariffs like Octopus or OVO?
Yes. The app includes native integrations for Octopus and OVO, so your charger automatically syncs with your tariff’s cheapest charging times. You’ll see custom colour themes for each integration.
Can I use the app without a smart tariff?
Absolutely. You can still set your own custom charging schedule using the custom tariff function — the app just makes sure you’re charging when your electricity is cheapest.
Can I schedule charging times?
Yes. Use Multi-Mode Scheduling to set daily or weekly charging windows that match your tariff or solar production.
Can I set a charging limit (e.g. stop at 80 %)?
Not from the charger. Hypervolt doesn’t read your car’s battery level. Use your EV’s settings to limit charge percentage.
Can multiple users control the charger?
Each charger links to one account at a time. To share control, users can log into that same account.
How does the Hypervolt charger connect?
It connects to the internet via Wi-Fi or Ethernet (there’s an RJ45 port inside the unit for a wired link). That’s what enables app control, smart-tariff syncing, and firmware updates. It does not use a mobile SIM connection.
If your charger’s location has weak Wi-Fi, you can:
- Run a wired Ethernet cable directly to your router, or
- Use a Wi-Fi range extender or Powerline adapter to boost signal strength.
Why am I getting a network error?
A pulsing white LED or “Network Error” means your charger is offline. Check your Wi-Fi or Ethernet connection and reboot the router and charger.
Will my charger update automatically?
Yes. When online, firmware updates install automatically — no manual action required.
Does Hypervolt work with smart-home systems?
Yes. Hypervolt integrates with Home Assistant, and additional community integrations are available.
Can I upgrade my charger or add new features later?
Yes. Software updates, new integrations, and warranty upgrades can all be activated via the app.
Does the app have a dark mode?
Yes. You can toggle between Light and Dark Mode for comfort and style — because charging tech shouldn’t blind you at 11 p.m.
Do I need to be at home to use the app?
No. The app is cloud-connected, so you can check status, change schedules, or start/stop charging from anywhere.
Ordering, Delivery & Warranty
How much does a typical installation cost?
Around £1,000 total (charger + standard install). Quotes are fixed before work begins. It’s slightly higher if you want to mount the charger on a pole instead of the wall.
How long does delivery take?
Orders usually ship next day. Installation is typically completed within 2–3 weeks.
What warranty do I get?
All Hypervolt chargers come with a 3-year standard warranty, extendable to 5 years within 30 days of purchase. Installation workmanship is covered for 12 months.
What does the warranty cover?
Manufacturing defects and workmanship issues. It doesn’t cover damage from incorrect installation, misuse, or third-party repairs.
What voids my warranty?
The warranty becomes invalid if the charger is installed or tampered with by anyone other than a certified EV charging electrician, or if the unit is opened, modified, or damaged by misuse or environmental factors (such as lightning strikes).
Swapping out any components (e.g. your charging cable) for a non-Hypervolt part will also void the warranty. If you want a different length of cable, you can buy it directly from us (but it will need to be swapped by a certified installer).
Who do I contact if I need to make a claim?
Reach out to support@hypervolt.co.uk or call 0333 090 3093. Our UK-based support team will verify your warranty details, carry out remote diagnostics, and arrange repair or replacement if required — usually within a few working days.
Does the warranty stay valid if I move house?
Yes, as long as the unit is re-installed by a certified installer following our guidelines.
Can I extend my warranty later?
Yes — within 30 days of purchase via the app or our team.
Troubleshooting & Support
What if my charger stops working?
Contact our UK-based support team. Many issues are fixed remotely via our diagnostics system.
Can Hypervolt fix problems remotely?
Usually yes — we can push firmware updates, run tests, and restore performance without an engineer visit.
Who should I contact if I purchased through OVO or Octopus?
Your installer handles site work; for hardware or software issues, contact Hypervolt Support directly.
What if my app doesn’t connect to the charger?
Check your Wi-Fi or Ethernet connection. If the LED ring is pulsing white, the charger is offline. Reboot your router and charger, or contact support@hypervolt.co.uk if the issue persists.
What support do I have after installation?
Phone, chat, or email support every day of the year, plus automatic software updates to keep your charger at its best.
